Opened in 1984 as a branch of the main Aragawa restaurant in Tamura-cho, Shimbashi, Tokyo. From the beginning, Gorio has maintained the Aragawa tradition of charcoal-broiled Tajima beef from Sanda and a single whole salmon the restaurant smokes them fresh each week, but has also put its own distinct stamp on this food so rich in the bounties of nature. In a quiet and romantic corner set apart from the bustle of the great metropolis, its intimate eighteen-seat space remains unchanged since its founding, preserving a dignified yet comfortable atmosphere we hope you will take your time to enjoy.

Where the Name "Gorio" comes from

It is the Japanese translation of the title of a novel by the famous French writer Honore de Balzac, Le Pere Goriot.

A Love of Beefsteak

Purebred Tajima cattle are raised for more than twenty-eight months in the Sanda region of Hyogo Prefecture, where only animals who meet specific criteria are selected for designation as Sanda beef. From among these prize cattle, we carefully select the very highest grade to serve at Gorio.
Sirloin is cut to a thickness of two to three centimeters, and tenderloin to five to six centimeters. The meat is flavored only with salt and pepper, and broiled on metal skewers in a special oven fired with binchotan hardwood charcoal from Wakayama Prefecture. Thanks to the skills and sense of our veteran chefs who distinguish ten separate stages of the broiling process, you will enjoy fine beefsteak as it is mean to be, with the fullest and most complex flavor imaginable.
Gorio also serves unusual cuts (H-bone, rump) prepared as steak, something which the main Aragawa restaurant does not offer.(Special advance order required)
